Onetangi Beach walk

We all took to the beach for my Nan's birthday who passed away last year. She always wanted to visit New Zealand after seeing a newsreel when she was a young girl at the cinema in the U.K. Back in the days when it was two films, news and a showing of the very early days of NZ tourism. It certainly had an effect on her as no TV's existed so would have literally been the first time that she would have set eyes on this landscape. You have to stop there and think how life would have been without TV, when you would have only known about things through books, word of mouth and cinema news reels and also how much impact these images would have had on the mind. Visually seeing for the first time only what your mind would have had an attempt at imagining. Imagination would have been more in use back then as now days images are spoon fed to our minds bypassing the imagination stage. Nowadays we are bombarded by imagery.

Anyway back to the walk, I always think of her when we do something special and on her birthday it felt right to go for a beautiful walk and experience what she would have loved to first hand.
