Owhanake Bay family portrait

I met the Jayme and Dave with their two young children Aira 4yrs & Kian 19 months at one of my favourite spots here on Waiheke to take their family portraits. It was threatening rain and had been pouring the week before so the sky was grey and the grass green, perfect for portraits. At the beach it was high tide, the kids were introduced to skimming stones helped by mum and dad.

We carried on our walk, along the track that runs along the beach, there you take a sharp right through a reed bed. These reeds are bigger than you or I and I love the feeling of shrinking or being dwarfed by these giant reeds. Picking our way through the muddy patches which was a great delight to the kids who got swung over any sloshy puddles.

Over the bough of the small hill you come to a secluded stony bay, can only be accessed by foot. I always love coming here and it is like your own little beach away from everyone and everything. Not too far from the beaten track so the little ones could manage the walk at their own pace, looking at every detail along the track of things that you don't see unless you come down to that level that they have of wonder in everything.
